Overall Composite CBN Inserts

Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) is a superhard material whose hardness is second only to diamond. It not only has many excellent characteristics of diamond, but also has higher thermal stability and chemical inertness to iron group metals and their alloys.

The CBN overall composite inserts is based on a CBN round composite sheet, and the shape and center hole are cut by laser and ground. The whole blade has one surface (single-sided composite) of PCBN material, with a central hole positioning.


When processing hardened steel with PCBN tools, the quenching hardness of the workpiece is required to be higher than 45~55HRC. When processing hard cast iron, as long as the hardness reaches the medium hardness level (45HRC), good processing results will be achieved. For example, the exhaust valve seat on the cylinder head of an automobile engine is made of high chromium alloy cast iron material containing copper and molybdenum, and its hardness is generally about 44HRC

This type of insert is used in the finishing of the turntable bearing raceway efficiently, and the grinding is replaced by turning, which improves the efficiency more than 5 times compared with grinding. Cubic boron nitride inserts have extremely high hardness and red hardness, can withstand high cutting speeds, are suitable for ultra-high-speed machining of steel workpieces, and are ideal cutting tools for high-speed machining of hardened steel, chilled cast iron, high temperature alloys and other materials. Because CBN inserts can obtain good surface roughness when machining high-hardness parts, using CBN tools to cut hardened steel can greatly improve machining efficiency while ensuring quality, and has the longest service life in high-speed cutting. Cubic boron nitride tools are suitable for turning and milling of high-strength steel, and are mainly used for semi-finishing and finishing. CBN tools are used for finishing, and the cutting effect is significantly better than that of cemented carbide and ceramic tools.
